Anthony
and Ethel Autore came to Cedarville from Sault Ste. Marie in 1955
to make a home for themselves and raise their family.
"Tony" was a commissioned agent for the Standard Oil
Company and had delivered fuel in the Sault area for 3 years prior
to moving to Cedarville, while Ethel had been a clerk and bookkeeper
for the A.& P. grocery store chain.
Both would be bringing their own expertise into a business venture
in the petroleum industry, as Tony purchased the "Cedarville/Hessel"
route that had been posted on the board at the Sault office of
Standard Oil Company for nearly two years.
They quickly established "automatic delivery" - A service
provided for their customers that would alleviate the problem
of running out of fuel because someone had forgotten to order
it. A "first of its kind" service that would serve as
the foundation of the Autore reputation and our committment to
customer care and service.
1974
- Autore Oil & Propane Company incorporated and hired
their first employee, Steve Autore. Steve drove the
Cedarville route as Tony had recently purchased the Pickford
route.
In 1975 we purchased the Detour and Drummond Island routes
and hired-on some of the agents that had originally driven
those
areas.
In 1985 the Cloverland Oil Company was purchased, which
represented the Mobil Oil Corporation, and covered many of the
same routes that we were already servicing. This also
brought to the table 5 convenience stores, an office in Sault
Ste. Marie
and bulk plants in Rudyard, Dafter, Pickford and Sault Ste. Marie.
1990 brought forth a new venture for Autore Oil, as we entered
into the bulk delivery of propane to homes and businesses in Michigan's
eastern Upper Peninsula.
Since the "automatic delivery" service plan that was
started in 1955, Autore Oil & Propane has made it known that
we don't just sell petroleum products.
We represent customer service throughout our entire operation.
A time-tested and proven trait that Autore Oil & Propane Company
has always maintained with our customers and employees since we
began - and we will continue for generations to come.
